At both its McCoy Center and Polaris campuses positioned near Columbus, Ohio, the financial services company has installed approximately 40,000 solar panels mounted above parking structures in canopy configurations.

The solar canopy installations serve multiple functions simultaneously. The system generates substantial renewable electricity while simultaneously protecting vehicles from direct sunlight and precipitation, keeping parked cars cooler and reducing heat absorption across the parking surfaces. This dual-purpose design maximizes the utility of existing infrastructure without consuming additional land resources.

The electricity generated by the solar canopies is projected to fulfill approximately 75 percent of the combined campus annual electricity demand. This substantial contribution significantly reduces operational reliance on conventional grid electricity and lowers associated greenhouse gas emissions from power generation.

Beyond immediate energy benefits, the solar canopy project demonstrates how established infrastructure can be systematically repurposed to generate environmental gains while maintaining original functionality.
